Alternative Energy Forums

Alternative energy is great and I think it's best for the whole world. However, when I think of this, Africa is one continent I truly worry about. The so calles 'urban cities' in Africa are poorly lit to begin with. Now, with the world turning to alternative energy (solar, wind, etc), how can African countries help themselves benefit from this? Aren't there companies in the developed world that can partner with Governments of African countries to help change their power situation?

It's a great opportunity for investment I think....

I agree as well, as a matter of fact Africa is a great place for models of mass renewable development. A California based Non-profit has been working with African women for some time now teaching them how to use solar cookers to help the people for one, but to also help keep them from using up the scares wood. I only dream a company i am connected too here in New Mexico can see their vision happen. They are poised to do just that! help under developed nations build compressed earth block homes, off the grid power, and much more....keep your eyes on Viable International Technologies Associates, (VITA CCN) if we get rollin!

Africa has plans and projects that will greatly benefit from renewable energy. Often in ways that more developed countries cannot see.

This renewable benefit is particularly true of those nations that have no local source of fossil energy. Those countries are even more susceptible to price rises than developed countries. There is sun and Wind, Geothermal and of course great Small & Micro hydro sites all over the continent. Yes, there is great need as well, but that spells opportunity!

I say if you are a solar manufacturer then expanding into Africa after careful research at this time might be a wise investment. Connecting with organizations and government programs there, who are actively trying to increase the use of alternative energy programs, could be a good way to begin.

If you belong to an investment group find existing programs, that promise good ROI but have a lack of funding.
