Hey guys. I’m a student at the University of Rhode Island and am currently doing a research project on global warming policies. I am very interested to know how people feel about the current environmental policies in place to combat global warming. Here’s a quick survey to help me better understand how the public feels; filling it out would be a tremendous help. All you have to do is answer yes or no to the following questions. Thanks!

1) Are you familiar with the Kyoto Protocol?

2) If yes, do you think it is an effective policy?

3) Do you believe that countries should have to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a certain percentage to combat global warming?

4) Do you think that the Bush Administration’s effort to combat global warming is sufficient?

5) Should developing new technologies that are environment-friendly be a focal point for reducing greenhouse gas emissions?

5) Yes but insufficient. Step 1 is easy, get rid of all energy subsidies ie create a level playing field.

2) A good idea, but effective? Not yet, and trading caps is a leverageable loophole.

4) He's a corporate suckling oil baron. Get real. He's about money, not the Earth. His mind is (and was from the get-go) made up for him by special interests to which he is indebted. Hasta La Bye Bye, Gee Duhb.

5) Sure, but there's no serious money or support for this. The powerful use their power to acquire more power. And the powers that are in place will keep the status quo forever.

Comment:
A) We are too late. Global warming is a chain reaction thing and it now has irresistible momentum. We had our chance to lead the world after the wake up call in the '70s, but it never happened. Conservative survival of the fittest corporate politics have ruled the day. Trickle-down economics do not work when most US corporations are largely owned by foreign interests.

B) The emerging countries are now getting a taste of the profits, and/or are desperately needy enough to disregard any environmental threat. They see the US as the cause, and now want their share of the pie.

C) We still have to try.

I was just thinking today that a good solution in finding a sustainable and constant source of capital needed to finance the R&D of complex alternative energy projects such as tidal energy for example, is by the creation of an international fund that invests in simpler alternative energy projects that can be achieved in the short run, say a geothermal energy plant or solar panels (which have proven to be very effective in the fight against global warming) and with the revenue obtained in this first stage investment step it is possible to reinvest the money in the second stage investment that consists mainly of more elaborate and complex projects such as the one of tidal energy that I mentioned before.

To further complement my idea of this International Fund, I propose a committee that is composed on one side by venture capitalists, private initiative and Soberan Wealth Funds and on the other hand Public funding by NGO and Governments.

I hope this idea can be achieved quickly or that someone already thought of it.

There are some factors that are increasing green-house gas emissions and release more pollutants in to the Environment.

1.Coal,which is main source to produce billions of electricity and also releases more pollutants in to the air and damage the living things.
2.This is a great impact on the climate change.

So,to reduce the green house gas emissions and carbon emissions,there is a technology called "Clean Coal Technology".This technology acts as a environmental friendly.

Coal is the enemy of the human race. It is corrosive to the communities and ecosystems where it is mined. Coal-fired power plants spew particulates and mercury pollution in to the air, cutting short some 30,000 lives a year. Those power plants are also responsible for 40 percent of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions.

Electric power generation is the single biggest source of global greenhouse gases. The industry funds deliberately deceptive propaganda campaigns about global warming."Clean coal technologies" have helped coal meet stringent environmental requirements, improve plant efficiency and become cost-effective. Such technologies have reduced carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury and sulfur dioxide emissions.
