Through my quest to find a renewable energy source for some unpowered rural property, I've come across much waste in the current wind technology. Many small turbines, that can be bought on eBay, are manufactured out of plastic, produce very little power and will likely end up in a heap of rubble in a landfill. This mentality, in my opinion, seems to defeat the idea of innovative sustainable energy technology.
In addition, the author of "Wind and solar can not replace oil - so what will?" seems to have a legitimate point with regards to oil being irreplaceable. Many windfarms are not profitable and current energy consumption, in many ways, is much worse than the 1950's (people drive more, create more E-Waste and produce more waste in general).
Not that I think I'm some sort of "expert", I'll admit that I'm very new to this, but I would like to know if anyone has any ideas for creating wind turbines out of recyclables and/or references for websites that have info on this? I created a small site, out of frustration, that is limited and needs more ideas/videos: http://www.steelsail.com
